ABOUT THE PROJECT
The main topic of this blog is going to be about my Phd thesis project, which is called "economic geographies of innovative growth". It will discuss mainly about different forms of capitals as the drivers of innovative growth. In the blog, I am going to present different kind of material from different phases of the research. There will be some data and results on different forms of capital, economic development and potential economic growth, for example.
The first of the articles in the future thesis dealt with human capital and innovativiness. We were able to show that innovations cluster in the same areas or on proximity of human capital even at a neighbourhood level. A case area of the study was the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. A link to the article is: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cities.2017.01.005.
The second paper will discuss of electronic capital and economic evolution in European Metropolitan Areas. There is an extended abstract of it available in Researchgate. In this article, it will be introduced a method for a collection of geographical data from Twitter social media site.
With the third paper, I am currently on fire! :D As one might guess, as in previous paper, the metropolitan areas are again on the focus. This time we will examine the creativity in the U.S. cities and again will reveal not only the concentrations of creative class, but also the clusters of potential growth.
Fourth, and hopefully the last paper that I will write as a doctoral student (not for sure gonna be the last one I am going to write!!! :D As I have heard from some wisers, PhD title is only a license to write. I sure like the idea behind that:)), will deal with spillover effects of universities. Case study of this paper is Finland, where we have plenty of valuable data from both public and private sector. This way we can conclude whether universities, public R & D projects and public knowledge intensive job establishments have an effect on private sector innovativeness, further economic growth, as were the case in former papers as well :)
