About MeJuho Kiuru
|
Juho Kiuru graduated from The University of Helsinki year 2008. Kiuru's major was Urban Geography and minors were Urban Studies, Spatial Planning and Sociology. After graduation Kiuru have worked as an urban planner in the cities of Espoo and Helsinki and as a researcher in National Consumer Research Center and as a research assistant on the department of Political History in University of Helsinki. Kiuru has also worked as GIS junior analyst in retail sector (K-Plus ltd.).
From September 2015 on Kiuru have worked with his PhD Thesis about economic geography. Thesis will consist of four articles where I test different theories of innovative growth in empirics located in Global North. There will be also an array of quantitative methods from earlier research, but some data collection methods are forwarded by myself with an assistance open data collective always ready to help dumber . Methods include an introduction where an access to the massive geographical data collection of Social Media Site Twitter is explained. Methods are used as examples to researches focusing on other geographical areas as well as to be used in other deciplines.
The contributions of the thesis will not relate exclusively in dvanced methods used throughout the four articles forming my PhD thesis. In addition to the different methods, I am going to try and utilise and further advance a different concept or theory in every article. My aim is to bring in the discussion some less mentioned concepts. I also try to advance different concepts used in the thesis. The main theory is the one of capitals (Bordieu). I am especially proud of my yet not published paper advancing the concept of creative capital.
In the blog, the purpose is to publish popularized text, results, tools, data sets, conclusions, recommendations and visions for relevant authorities but also comparative information and models for researchers from other research areas and from other disciplines as well. Related branches benefitting from the methods and conclusions found in my project could be, in addition to different geographical or social sciences, for example economics or humanistic sciences, or for example any researcher wanting to use hopefully forward developed means of gathering numeric and geographical data, or even text content of social media. In addition, the dearest ambition of my thesis is under construction in paper, which should be article no. 3 in my thesis.
I can currently take in commissions related to quantitative urban or regional research or analyses. Themes could be predictions of potential growth areas, rankings, heat maps or so on. For example 6 to 8 pages long report including nice pictures and tables could be done in a month. I am also willing to develop policy implications based on analyses or/and theories proved widely to be valid.
Feel free to contact in any matter (yet would be nice if it related somehow to cities), at any time via the contacts provided in CONTACT tab above, or by clicking this link (CONTACT)
