I have done the collection of Twitter data from European metropolises. Currently I'm mining data from US metropolitan areas over 500,000. Theoretical framework of the paper considering twitter activity in Europe focuses on digital social capital, thus electronic capital, or e-capital. Article from US cities lean to idea of the creative cities, which have been in fact conceptualized already way earlier than Florida's Creative class (e.g. Landry & Bianchini (1995). I believe there is still some shortage of mapping exercises for the geography of the creative cities. Especially researched from the angle of creativity in social media. That should be the most up to date space where the creativity is present. Not forgetting the geographical space of the creativity, i. e. creative cities. The first data collected were tweets containing word research. I believed research would represent creativity, i.e. by examining relations of the tweets in hashtagify.me. There's number of other key words coming, so we can rank US cities regarding different key words related to creativity in social media. The final outcome will be re conceptualizing the economic geography related concept of "The creative cities". Regression analyses will tell whether the creativity present in social media affects metropolises economy. Heat maps of different key words related to creativity will give us a series of maps dealing with larger clusters formed from the creative cities. This one table presenting twitter activity in the field of research tells us that Washington D.C. is also the research capital of the United States. The other well-known research clusters seems to lay in Bay Area, The Triangle and East coast. I would also like to share the data of tweets containing word research. The next step for me is to make a heat map of it and find spatial clusters of digitally creative cities. In addition, I collect the rest of the data and do the same kind of rankings and heat maps for other key words as well. I hope you find the data beneficial, too :)

There's another example of collaboration with people from different fields of science. I collected areal data of different topics assumed to affect on recruitment. Saku Tihveräinen and Ilkka Virmasalo made analyses how recruitment and job choices of applicants depend on area's socioconomics and type and age of building stock or so.
Here is Saku presenting his work @eawop2107 in Dublin. Check the main findings this far from the following link: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6270919971392622592/ As my twitter profile once mentioned: "interested in all things spatial". That's where you can end up if you are willing to mix geography with any other science. I have worked three months in collaboration with the department of Food Hygiene and Environmental Health in the faculty of veterinary medicine of University of Helsinki.
There have not been big problems with the topic as my part of the research consist of things I use to do otherwise, too. The main data source, the hygiene of the restaurants is completely random big data set and first of a kind in my career. Anyhow, I have been able to use also socioeconomic data, which I'm maybe the most familiar with. So all in all, I made a regression analysis which measured, will the location and area's socioeconomic factors predict the hygiene of the restaurant. These I have been done earlier, too. Regression analysis is a good method to compare some phenomena with other factors. In this analysis, location and socioeconomic data explained only one fifth of the hygiene of the restaurant. This result gives room for possible other features which might affect on the hygiene of the restaurant. All in all, as prof. Inkinen, concluded, the small explainable power is actually good thing, cause we don't want that the location or socioeconomic factors of the area it is located, would affect on the quality of the restaurant? I tried a couple of times to beg for your comments, but didn't work. Would it be nicer if I told something about my days and stuff like that. Not just rigid results of the quantitative analyses. I can feel you have maybe not reached the person I am. I have focused from the beginning of the blog to just report of the results of my research. All anxiety, flows, happiness and that kind of emotions have been left from reporting. Maybe not every coffee cup updates, but something about the feelings of the PhD project could be refreshing to you readers, so you don't have to read only results and conclusions, but you could like to hear more general personal feelings about the PhD project. Maybe I could add possible accidents coming during the project. This could grow possible readers who are not as passionate as I about the results. Peer support from PhD student from other field than your own could sometimes be satisfying Yesterday I realized I have only one deadline in May. Before that I twiited that I have two deadlines. Well the first one was Wednesday. Partners in crime were satisfied in my part of the article. Research group is formed from: Jenni Kaskela, Janne Lunden, Tommi Inkinen and I Juho Kiuru. I told my point of view that my part of the methods, results and consequences satisfied me, hope you too. They said yes. I knew it wasn't rocket science and they too. Still proper stuff for an international article. Some of the wishes from the members of the project and administrative board were impossible to perform in such short period. In further research could be interesting to examine spatial scale between 6 large areas and about 3 000 postal code areas. That would need such a large amount of work that it would be another project and article. I promised still add four more stuff into draft before next Thursday meeting of executives. I am not invited. I am just a PhD thesis worker like Jenni Kaskela. Tommi Inkinen and Janne Lundén are our supervisors, respectively. I am glad to the team we have. We talked about possible next papers when they have finished that article I started. In research you have to adapt to unsure wages. Grants can be as short as for three months. In June there's going to be two decisions for longer term grants where we are talking about couple to four years. That would be super great. I could finish my thesis in two to three years. So if i got the four year deal, the last year would be post doc wages :) I don't know if this is field is highly paid. Totally not at this stage where I am. Instead professors I assume get already quite good salary. Research in private sector would be one option. But now I'm totally satisfied in my visiting researcher position in university of Helsinki. According to some ranking, Helsinki's Geography department was in top 50 in the world. I have so flexible working hours I couldn't ever even dream of. I work mostly remotely at home. When the kids come from school, I'm hear to feed them and keep company to them. I think that these times might be possibly the happiest of my life. After keeping company to kids they usually go out so I can work again for a few hours. At the night I'm again with the kids till they go sleep. Then I usually watch football or Girls. I really don't know any series. Girls is one of the only ones I have watched in recent years. Maybe True Detective is the only other one I have watched complete, though excluding season 2, which I have heard is somewhat too crazy. If you think you can recommend some series or movies in recent years, give me a hint in the comment section. You can also send personal post from the contact form. Guy who should get exited about your recommendetion is a guy who is a tourist in series and movies nowadays. Once I knew all the bestsellers of the books and movies. We had this blog after Charles Bukowski: "Rakkaus on koira helvetistä" (Love is a dog from hell) with my wifey. Now I can only say that I have seen Aki Kaurismäki's newest Other Side of Hope, which I of course liked like all of the Kaurismäki brothers' films. Moonligt was another movie I've seen lately. It was somehow touching and okay movie. My all time favorite series are Twin Peaks, Sopranos, Seinfeld. Not much I can say. Maybe Simpsons is another memorable series. Maybe I am more into games than tv, but feel free to recommend something absolutely killer, if it would relax the times I'm not working. So now I don't have deadline of my second article draft in the half way of may. Maybe my supervisor saw I couldn't make it in such short period. There was also some kind of disinformation about the deadlines. So now I have two deadlines in May. The first was already and the other is after a week. I can make them. It's so soothing that the deadline of the second article is now agreed another time in Summer. The second article is already accepted to Journal of Open Innovation: Market, Society and Complexity. I feel this open journal is perfect for my research where I used only open data and open software. I have also shared the data I have collected in my blog in the spirit of open science. Now I just have to finish the article and send it to my supervisor, prof. Tommi Inkinen, who edits my draft into top cream of scientific text :) We have a good partnership. Lately I have not been as productive as some other periods, but now I think the extended deadline of the second article loosens me up and I can write it with a flow. I calculated that if I write 400 words in a day, I should use approximately two weeks into article. After I have overcame with the next Thursday deadline, I give me 6 weeks to do that two weeks' working hours. here is also for example two book reviews I have to do at the same time and an conference of open innovation in Riga. And I usually can't even focus on only one project, I absolutely have to have at least two or three projects going on at the same time. Figure 1. Waiting for the weathers. Helsinki may rank near top in many indexes, but surely not in climate :D
